The BDRGA committee are saddened to announce the passing of former secretary, BDRGA President, YRGA President and Shipley GC President, Peter Wilkinson. Peter was a valued, and longstanding, member of the BDRGA committee he will be greatly missed by all.
It is with great sadness that the BDRGA announce the passing of our staunch supporter and former president, Terry Walker. Terry was a force to be reckoned with, setting up the fund raising efforts that have kept the BDRGA on a sound financial footing over the last decade. His accident at Baildon golf club came just as he was getting back to playing golf after complications from his knee replacement surgeries. The accident meant he could no longer play golf but his enthusiasm for the Bradford and Yorkshire areas meant he continued to attend many meetings and helped in the running of our competitions. He will be greatly missed, our thoughts are with Joan and the rest of his family at this incredibly sad time.
A message from our secretary
Over the past few days I’ve been attempting to put together a framework for how the BDRGA events and matches should proceed in 2020. Every time I’ve felt that I had it right, the situation has changed – and never for the better.
Unfortunately we now have to conclude that the only sensible course of action is to suspend all competitions (including the League and Chippendale) until further notice. If circumstances change, we will be in touch with you.
Stay well: play golf if it’s safe for you to do so and we hope that you and your families remain healthy.
Very best wishes,
Our vice president, Mr Simon Hunt, has sadly informed the BDRGA that as of the end of March 2020 Silsden Golf Club will close. Silsden have always been staunch supporters of the Bradford Unions especially the BDRGA for which we have always been very grateful.
With the 2020 season not having been played this adjustment has been carried forward to 2021, Division D will consist of five clubs. At the end of this season two clubs will be relegated as usual but only one club will gain promotion from each division. This should balance the divisions for 2022 into four divisions of six clubs.
It is with great sadness that the BDRGA announce the passing of our long time colleague Tony O’Melia. Tony was a staunch supporter of both Bradford and Yorkshire areas attending many meetings and competitions. He will be sadly missed, our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

Congratulations to South Bradford on winning Division A, Rawdon for winning Division B, Bradford Moor for winning Division C and Ben Rhydding for winning Division D. Congratulations also to Skipton, Shipley and East Bierley for gaining promotion from their respective divisions. A great thanks for everyone playing tonight despite the forecasted thunderstorms (deja vu with the final night of last season!) and for reporting the results so promptly. The fixtures for 2020 will be calculated shortly so keep visiting the website.
Congratulations to East Bierley on winning the BDRGA Nine Hole Team Championship, held at Headley Golf Club. This is the third year in succession that East Bierley have won the event. Runners-up, Clayton Golf Club were two points behind.
It is with great sadness that the BDRGA have to report that our secretary, Mel Smart, has recently passed away. Our condolences go out to his wife Jean and all of their family. Mel was well known throughout golfing circles in Bradford and around Yorkshire. He was secretary for the BDRGA, Woodhall Hills rabbits, the flightpath Trophy and the railway golf society. He will be greatly missed throughout our region.
